Captured

This is my opening sequence of a thriller genre. I used many conventions of a thriller film such as Eree music to create tension, Dark and Light lighting for the right mood and times, suspense, and tension. i think my opening sequence worked really well as a whole although there are mnay things i would change and add to it for example i think there needed more titles and credits and i also feel i could have shot a bit more, but i also like how i have done some of the shots and effects i have used worked well with what i had. overall i think my film is successfull.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My opening sequence uses many conventions like real media products, for example my film includes Eree music at the neginning just like any other opening sequence, it also starts half way through instead of at the beginning which is what many thriller opening sequance's do. i have qucik shots throughtout so my audience has to ask questions which is another aspect opening sequences do. by having these means i have done my research in terms of looking at many opening sequences to know what they include and need to make it look good. i think i have done this quite well but could also improve it in many ways. i think i have used mnay conventions of a thriller which is good because it would draw my audience in more quickly.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product shows many presents particular social groups which is "victimised teenagers" as we have used a teenage girl to represent the victim. she is an average teenage girl trying to persue a dream but gets abused. by representing this group means people will become more aware of what could happen and be careful. By representing such a young social group could be hard trying to convince people but i think it has worked quite well and i have got my point across easily.

Looking back at your Priliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

After i had completed my thriller opening sequance i looked at btoh this and my prilimanry task to see if my skills have improved which i feel they had, when i look at my primliminary task some of the shots were quite shakey and could have been framed better. i also feel i did not put enough effort into it to what i could have done. i feel i could have re-shot many shots and made it look more professional and continuity. when i look back at my Thriller opening sequance i can see a huge improvment in many things including the framed shots and the steadyness of them, i also used more effects and transitions in my thriller opening scene which made it look more effective and knowledgable which showed i have learned since the first task we did and improved in what i have done.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When making and producing this film i have learnt many techniques. one of the techniques i have learnt is how to use the makes and iMovie effectibly and to a standard i can improve my work to a high standard, i have learnt how to cut clips, add effects, music, colouring and so on, this helps a lot as you have a wider experiance which means i can experiment even more and make my film look even better. Another techniuque i learnt is how to use a camera properly instead of just the average turn it on and film, i have learnt how to frame shots properly and use the techniques invloved in the camera such as zooming in and out to gain close up and long shot and panning so you can get a whole section in making it look very effective and steady. by having the knowledge of this has given me the confidence to edit my film and make it to a good enough standard.

How did you attract/adress your audience?

To attract/adress my audience i used a lot of thriller conventions such as Eeree music, this can create enough tension to get the reader going and involved. I also used Dark lighting this adds to the effect as it makes it more real as what you see you wouldn't expect it to be light out as they wouldn't want people to see what is happening. i also made sure i used a variety of effects to add to the tensions of a thriller, this will help attract the audience as they will get involved in the film quicker and wouldn't find it dull.

Who would be the audience for your media?

The target audience for my thriller film is middle aged teenagers, such as 15+, i have chosen this age group as i feel it is nessassery for the subject my film is about, it can alert young girls and boys but also entertain them, the sort of teenagers i would like to attract is people who like watching thrillers and enjoy things like this, although i want to attract a certain age of teenagers i want it to be a variety of different people with different views. Whether or not they are high - low class is not something that is important when choosing my target audience. It is about people who like a thriller genre film.

What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product?

I would like my film to be distributed in many different instituions such as film magazines, cinemas, and the trailers at the beginning of a film. I would also have it advertised with many similar genres so i can attract the right target audience for my film. By having a variety of ways to distribute my film means i can get a wider range of audience's is and my it would attract my target audience quicker.

Editing #3

For todays editing lesson i made sure i had all the footage i needed so i could get straight on and do as much as i can as the deadline is coming up in the next few days. i managed to complete loads in this lesson, adding in titles, subtitles, effects and making sure it all flows. i am pleased with my film so far and think it will come out good. although i managed to do a lot in todays lesson i struggled a bit as i didn't know what i was doing at times and how to do certain things. Also in todays lesson i imported my music from freesounds.com. the music i chose works really well with my film as it is a piece of music that is quite Eerie and creates a lot of tension, which is what i was looking for.

Editing #2

Todays lesson i carried on with my editing, cutting away bits i didnt need, adding effects, and putting everything where i wanted it to be. i worked really well in this lesson and i managed to get a lot done. i am pleased with what i have achieved so far. while editing this film i am learning more skills and techniques in which i could use to improve the quality of my film even more. although i have sorting my clips out there are still a few bits missing where i need to re-shot them and add things in to make it flow more easily.

Editing

In todays lesson we uploaded all our footage we had filmed and started our editing individually. i started by sorting out all the clips i did not want or did not work well, i then started with the basics by putting all my clips where i wanted them ready for cutting and developing. I found this lesson really effective as we could now see if we needed to re-shot anything or film more to add to it and make it even better. our group decided that we needed to film a few more shots we hadn't included so arranged to do that in our next lesson when we are all together.

Filming #2

In todays lesson we filmed our scene when our victim and the "photographer" met. we filmed this down an alley as it would leave our viewers wondering why. these shots took a lot longer to film as it was outside so we had to make sure noonne else was in this shot. we done a lot of re-shooting with this but we got some good shots in the end. i think the atmosphere worked well. although i liked these shots i still think we could have improved them, for example in soem shots they were quite wobbly so they could do with being re-shot.

Filming

In todays lesson my group started our filming. We started our filming by filming the shots of our victims flashback. while filming this we had to do mnay re-takes as many mistsakes were getting made. overrall i think these shots worked well and was very effective, they created tension and uneasee as it is something you may not want to watch. to improve these shots we the character could have been more in character as they found it hard to keep a straight face. When looking back at this i feel there could be a couple of shots were we could re-shot and make to a higher quality.

Shooting Schedule

This is our shooting schedule we done, we have put down what we are going to film on exactly what days, for example on the 8/1 we would be filming just shots 1-4. we done this like this so we know what we have to do and can get staright on with it and take more time doing it.

List of props, costumes and locations

Props...
When thinking about what props to use we thought very carefully in terms of how we could do shots with props we wanted to use and how we could use them to draw the viewers attention in. we also thought about the sort of things that are appropriate and could work with what we wanted to do and clues we could give the viewers without given away to much information.
  • Chair
  • Handcuffs
  • Rope
  • Necklace
  • Suitcase
  • Photos
Costumes...
When talking about the sort of costumes we want to put our characters into we thought about the professional look and the sort of clothes people would expect to see a photographer in and also the sort of clothes you would normally see a teenage girl in. We came up with:
  • Man: Smartly Dressed, Black trousers,, Smart top, plimsoles.
  • Girl: (when she meets him) Ugg Boots, Tights, Long Top/Shirt,
  • Tied Up/ being Abused: Bare feet/ Legs, tight Short Dress, Hair Down.
Locations..
When we discussed where we wanted to film our shots we decided it will be more exiting to film it in an old run down garage instead of a posh studio where you would expect it. By having this will make the audience ask more questions and feel uneasy. we also planned to film down an alley where the two characters meet, as it is an unusual place to meet someone.

Storyboards

In our groups we had to come up with a storyboard on what our film was going to include shot by shot. This took a lot of time and we had to do it in a lot of detail so somebody could come along and look at it and be able to roughly film a shot. Our storyboard consists of a variety of shots we will be using, how we will be using them and what for. We coloured and explained our story boards so we know what we need to do and how we need to do it. this will make it easier for us as it means we can just go to our storyboards and know exactly what we need to film and where. although i am pleased with this storyboard and the shots we have decided to do i feel there could be changes in the future where i will have to add in another story board for the changes i would make, but for now i think this is very effective.

Shot List

  • Close Up - Nice photos of the girl (professional)
  • Extreme close up
  • Close up of equipment
  • Close up - dirty photos
  • Pan of wall x 2
  • Close up of feet
  • Crain of body (slow)
  • Mid shot, zoom into
  • Close up of his feet
  • Close up of her feet
  • Close up of necklace and him looking at it
  • Mid shot of them walking away (showing costume)
  • Close up if girls possessions such as, bag, money, clothes, make up, necklace.
by having so many close ups gives the audience less to work with it makes them wonder why they have put these close up in and what they mean. It gives away more tension and suspense by knowing not too little but not to much.

By having a crain of her body shows the audience exactly what state the girl is in and how she looks, it adds to the cold effect of being hurt and upset. i think this shot would be very effective and wrk well with what i plan to do.

Synopsis

A typical thriller film starting with the middle instead of the beggining. About a man who claims he is a photographer when realy he is a run down peadofile, with his win across attitude and smart maner her manages to convince innocent girls he is a photograpther and promises them a career. He then comes across a nice girl who he targets, he acts perfessional for a few weeks but not for long until he starts abusing her and taking photos for his own personal use. but..will he get caught?

during the film it will leave the audienc asking many questions such as: who is he? what is he doing? where are they going? and many more. this is a thriller as it included many conventions such as tension, ask questions, suspense, police, day and night.

Initial Ideas

When planning our sequance we came up with a few ideas of what we wanted it to be about and include, we then worked from there going into more detail about exactly what we wanted.
to start up with we came up with a few points such as:
  • Rape
  • Chase
  • Memory Loss
  • Flash backs = audience see's it clearly but girl doesn't remember it
  • Photos
  • wall of photos (women, dirty)
  • individual girls looking nice.
  • Equipment, chair, whips, handcuffs.
  • newspaper headline
All these points are what we want to include, we chose rape as it is a subject that happens a lot more recently it is a very strong and important subject in todays life. we thought long and hard about how we could represent this without actually showing rape, we came up with an idea of having flashback shows parts of her being tied up and clothes ripped, by doing this like this means that the audience will still have to ask questions but will eventually know what is happening. the wall of photos will be placed around the garage/room where the girl would have been abused this shows that she is not the first girl but one of many.

Conventions of a title sequance

The conventions of a title sequance are:

  • insight to the film
  • shots if the characters uncluded
  • titles of the film
  • clues about the plot.
